TP400 power transmission: innovative, yet simple
Hispano-Suiza supplies the accessory gearbox for the TP400 turboprop engine, which develops an impressive 13,000 shaft horsepower. Featuring a simple, yet optimized design, it will meet the dispatch reliability, weight and maintainability requirements for the new Airbus A400M military transport aircraft. The TP400 is built by Europrop International, a consortium of the four European engine-makers ITP, MTU Aero Engines, Rolls-Royce and Snecma.
The TP400 power transmission is attached near the engine core, as opposed to the external mounting of these units on turbofan engines. This characteristic clearly illustrates Hispano-Suiza’s expertise in propeller gearbox (PGB) transmissions, a critical part of all turboprop applications.
The innovative TP400 power transmission features a compact, modular layout, integrating the transfer gearbox with the main gearbox. It also incorporates composite materials to reduce overall weight.
