Hispano-Suiza teams up with Rolls-Royce on the Trent engine family

Hispano-Suiza designs, develops, produces and supports power transmissions for Rolls-Royce’s Trent family of engines: the Trent 500, 700/700 EP (Enhanced Performance) and 800, respectively powering the Airbus A340-500/600, Airbus A330 and Boeing 777. Most recently our power transmission was selected for the Trent XWB that will power the A350 XWB.

“More than 20-years partnership anchored in excellence ”

Hispano-Suiza kicked off our relationship with Rolls-Royce in 1989, by winning the contract to supply the power transmission for the Trent 700 engine offered on the Airbus A330-200/300. In 1992 Rolls-Royce chose Hispano-Suiza’s power transmission for the Trent 800, and in 1998, we again won a Rolls-Royce contract, this time for the Trent 500.

In 2008 we were selected by Rolls-Royce to supply the power transmission for the new-generation Trent XWB, rated at 74,000 to 95,000 lb of thrust, which will power all versions of the new Airbus A350 XWB. The high-tech power transmission system for the Trent XWB engine comprises the main accessory gearbox and transfer gearbox, angle driveshaft, oil tank and the high-pressure and radial driveshaft bevel gears. It also incorporates the latest innovations in terms of production processes and supply chain management.

With more than 570 firm orders already booked for the new Airbus A350 widebody twinjet, the Trent XWB will be a crucial program for Hispano-Suiza in the coming decades.
